Digital Stories

“It’s important that we share our experiences with other people. Your story will heal you and your story will heal somebody else.” – Iyanla Vanzant

The following digital videos provide heartfelt stories from community members about their realities, both their challenges as well as their resiliencies, in seeking healing from COVID-19 throughout New Mexico. Digital stories are posted from community members served by First Nations Health Source in the Albuquerque International District, and from Latino/a/x and border community members.

Digital Storytelling (DST) is an innovative method for community members to offer their own oral and visual narratives that build on people’s cultural and community knowledges and traditions, simultaneously to honor their challenges and also to foster participant engagement, healing, and learnings based on their own experiences and wisdom. The goal of the NM-WEAVE digital stories is for community members to share their narratives through media centered in their creative expressions of strength, beauty, growth, learning, and social realities. Using photos, video footage, and voiceover, NM WEAVE digital stories highlight the challenges, resiliency, and healing of people from around the state during the COVID-19 pandemic. More than just a video, the stories have social context and allow for the examination of social realities, assessment without judgment, and ultimately a call for action, racial and health equity, and healing for New Mexico communities.

Please take time to view the stories, feel their impact, and think about your own experiences and the actions we can take together to support community recovery and well-being based on shared values of compassion, caring, and equity.
